Bentley Dreaming »

Bentley Dreaming from Paul Dimalanta on Vimeo.

Ah, January — a month full of optimism and hope for the New Year. This film is full of that kind of dreaming. This car is so beautiful and drives so well that it makes me want it in my garage. Whether it’s your dream to have a bright orange Bentley, or not, cheers to the toast of big dreams and the surprise of our own success.

Spice Up the Gift Giving Season »

AUDI A8 W12 from Paul Dimalanta on Vimeo.

As we make the last minute preparations for the Holidays, don’t forget to have a little fun. Take a cue from our couple in this film cruising in this unassuming yet massively powerful Audi A8 W12. Watch them take that extra spin around the block, activate the built-in massage functions in their leather seats, as they chill a bottle of sparkling wine in the refrigeration compartment hidden in the rear passenger arm rest. Have some fun with what you have.

Embrace the simpler luxuries we have in our lives. Enjoy a good meal with close friends, share some laughs, and prepare to make 2013 a little more luxurious.

Indian Summer Drive »

Fall has just arrived when our couple comes to a “tipping point” in their relationship. A little fun in BMW’s new convertible might be all they need to get back on track.

Shot in the Palisades, Los Angeles – this multi-media shoot was streamlined by using the RED Epic camera that simultaneously captured both motion and stills.

We took two days to capture the beautiful location in all its coastal splendor. Then, with a great crew and incredible planning, we filmed all the shots we needed of our talent in one fast paced afternoon.

Water Balloon Solution »

It’s been a record setting 12 months of extra warm weather, so hot that planes are being delayed due to the tarmac turning into pudding. This video isn’t going to get your plane in the air on time, but it has one pretty good solution for keeping cool.

We shot with the RED Epic camera enabling us to get print images while shooting motion. Preparing for the shoot, we filled a large ice chest with water balloons and ice cold water. We found that adding water to the ice chest keeps the balloons at the bottom from prematurley exploding — who knew?! The result was a refreshing day creatively exploding water balloons in the warm California sun.

Bierut in LA »

Michael Bierut

A rockstar in the world of design, Michael Beirut came to LA and sold out the 300 person Independent Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Beirut is one of the partners at Pentagram, the world’s largest independent advertising agency. The format of his presentation was a loose lesson plan that covered inspirations, experiences, hard truths, all based from his personal evolution as a designer. He shared with us examples of his work designing the facade of the New York Times building and the packaging for Saks 5th Ave.

It was a nice treat for the LA design community who haven’t seen Bierut here in LA for almost a decade.

Battle Against Myopia »

Master Lock has been able to remain a household name because of good design. Peering through this iconic bullet hole is Chief Marketing Director, Scott Williams.
For this AIGA LA event, Williams was at A+D Museum in Los Angeles to rage war against myopia in design. Williams was armed with his years of experiences working and consulting for large corporations. He shared how the investments he demanded in smart design enabled an 80 year old company, like Master Lock, to be able to prosper even within a market lousy with low cost competition.

La Kiss »

As the sun set the day of the shoot, everything felt right. We had captured all the footage we needed for the test that we had planned with Oishii Creative. This last scene was going to be just “bonus” material — so we just let the good vibes keep coming.

The fun vignettes are intended to be mixed with motion graphics in order to frame information in a more interesting way.  This clip was the last sequence we captured that day.  Running around at the waters edge, holding hands and one innocent kiss.  What a great way to wrap up.

Built in 30 Days »

The energy on campus was electric! And I don’t think it was just the syrup and chocolate chips from the pancake breakfast. The children watched excitedly as the first piece of the puzzle was being positioned.

The trucks rolled in, a crane was put in place and in about six hours a vacant footprint transformed into four new classrooms. This marvel of innovative building for the Brentwood School was captured with several cameras posted all over the campus, attached to cranes and hitching rides on multiple parts of classrooms as the interlocking pieces were lifted several stories in the air and into place on the campus. The whole event, like a beautiful ballet, was masterfully choreographed by Tony Sarich, the VP of Operations for American Modular Systems, creators of Gen 7.

As each piece was set to the ground applause rang from the students and faculty on the various viewpoints all over campus.  Going green was never so beautiful.

Teach Green »

The Brentwood School has four new “eco friendly” classrooms designed by Gen 7.  The academic standards of excellence at the Brentwood School and the innovative  design and sustainability of Gen 7 are a perfect match.  The build only took a matter of weeks to install on this prestigious campus.  These structures are powered by the solar panel roofs, use amplified skylights for lighting and have super efficient climate control systems in an extremely efficient learning space.

School is in session.

BRAND = Font + Color »

Meet Jean Francois Porchez.  In fashion so much of what makes a piece fashionable can be found in the details.  This is true in the fashion of graphic design and typography.  As example, the flourish style for a serif or the weight of a line are some of the many defining characteristics of a font.  Porchez has a well known career making precise decisions about these subtle nuances while creating custom fonts for brands like Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vitton.

I caught up with Porchez at the Custom Hotel near the Otis College of Design.  He was lecturing at the College and spent his last night in town speaking to LA professionals at this chic hotel.  The evening was presented by AIGA LA, with the support of Behance and Oishii Creative.   With punch lines ending with Helvetica, Ditto or Garamond this niche crowd was highly amused.

Here is a little more of the evening.
